TORONTO, Ont. – A Toronto organist has broken the Guinness World Record for a marathon involving the church organ.
Jacqueline Sadler at Eastminster United Church near Danforth and Broadview had to play for longer than the previous record, which was 40 hours and 3 minutes.
She began playing at 8 a.m. Monday and finished shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
Some pedestrians walking past the church dropped in to cheer her on and enjoy the music
“It seems like it’s something she’s passionate about because she’s still going. I don’t know how she’s doing it. It doesn’t seem like it’s possible but it’s fascinating.” one woman told 680News.
During her marathon, Sadler went through the church’s 900-page hymn book at least twice.
Supply minister Kerry Bowser told 680News the organist took on the challenge to raise money for the church’s music program.
During her attempt to break the record, Sadler was only allowed a five minute breaks every hour.
