Suresh Joachim breaks hand shaking world record

Canada’s number one world record breaker attempted another unusual feat Friday – and Suresh Joachim made it count.

Joachim’s goal was to shake more than 31,118 hands in eight hours, breaking the current record set in 1996. He positioned himself outside Brampton’s Powerade Centre on Kennedy Road on Canada Day, and shook hands with nearly everyone who exited.

According to Guinness World Records rules, Suresh can’t shake hands with the same person more than once. At 9:45 p.m., he finally made his goal.

Joachim said he shook 32,069 hands, setting a new world record.

“The mayor of Brampton was my last handshake,” Joachim told CityNews.ca

“Afterword, [Susan Fennell] took me up onstage, and the fireworks started,” he said.
