LIVERPOOL, England — Liverpool completed the signing of Spanish left back Jose Enrique from Premier League rival Newcastle on Friday.

Liverpool did not say how much it paid for the 25-year-old defender but British media reported the fee as 6 million pounds ($9.8 million).

Enrique is Liverpool’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window and links up with former Newcastle teammate Andy Carroll.

“This is one of the happiest days of my life,” Enrique said. “I have come to one of the biggest clubs not just in England, but in the world.

“They spent a lot of money in January on Andy and Luis Suarez and this summer they’ve spent a lot of money on other players.”

Enrique follows Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Alexander Doni and Stewart Downing in moving to Anfield since the end of last season.
