Rogers Communications Inc. continues to roll out its Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless network, making it available to Toronto next month.
Toronto-based Rogers, the parent company of Citytv, first launched the new network in Ottawa in July. It said it will be available here on Sept. 28.
“Ottawa residents are already enjoying the benefits of Canada’s fastest network technology – now Torontonians can begin the countdown to LTE and a whole new wireless experience,” John Boynton, executive vice-president and chief marketing officer, said in a release.
The company said the LTE network will allow customers to have faster download speeds when surfing the web on mobile devices, play multi-player games and provide a “rich multi-media communications” experience than the current 4G HSPA+ networks.
Rogers worked with Ericcson to build and test the LTE network in Ottawa and Montreal. It will be rolled out in Vancouver and Montreal later this fall.
The Samsung Galaxy S II LTE Smartphone and the LTE Rocket mobile hotspot (Sierra Wireless AirCard 754S) will be among the first LTE wireless devices available for use on the upgraded network.
