QEW reopens after crash kills man

A forty-something man died Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way.

Police temporarily shut down all Fort Erie-bound lanes at Highway 10, but the highway was reopened shortly after 11 a.m.

The vehicle left the highway at Mississauga Road around 8 a.m., crashed into a sign, a pole, a tree and fence, police said. The driver was pronounced dead in hospital.

Police told CityNews the victim is a man in his 40s.

An unknown object reportedly struck the windshield and hit the driver before the crash. It’s not known if that object fell on the car, was kicked up from the highway, or came from a passing vehicle.
