Funeral for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl coach Brad McCrimmon to be held Saturday

Funeral services have been set for former Detroit Red Wings assistant coach Brad McCrimmon, who was among those killed when a private jet carrying KHL team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl crashed shortly after takeoff.

The Archdiocese of Detroit says visitation is 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in the Detroit suburb of Farmington. A funeral Mass is noon Saturday at the church.

McCrimmon was in his first season coaching Lokomotiv and died in the Sept. 7 crash. The former NHL player was 52.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports Saturday’s morning training camp session will start about two hours earlier than scheduled so Wings team members may fly to the Detroit area from Traverse City for the funeral services. Saturday’s scrimmage is cancelled.

A native of Plenty, Sask., McCrimmon played 18 years in the NHL for Boston, Philadelphia, Calgary, Detroit, Hartford and Phoenix before moving behind the bench.
