Cast members of Wilfred stopped by Citytv on Wednesday to discuss their show and the launch of specialty channel FX Canada on Oct. 31.
“Wilfred is about a guy who’s having kind of an internal crisis, and then he meets this girl who’s got a dog — but he sees the dog as an Australian man in a dog suit,” Jason Gann said.
Gann co-created and acted in the Australian version of the show, playing the dog. He reprises his role in the U.S. remake, which airs on FX Canada beginning Oct. 31.
The series, which also stars Elijah Wood as Ryan, the man with the crisis, just got picked up for its second season.
“FX has sold 3,000 Wilfred suits for Halloween and there’s a lot more out there,” Gann said.
“The fans are kind of…fanatical.”
The show airs at 11 p.m. on Oct. 31 on the specialty channel, and Citytv will air a sneak peek on Oct. 24 at 10 p.m.
The FX channel will air FX original series, U.S.-acquired movies and series, original Canadian programming and Canadian sports events.
Rogers Media Inc., the parent of Citytv, is co-owner of FX Canada.
