Ducks’ Jacques ejected for head shot

It appears Brendan Shanahan’s job isn’t going to get any easier in the new year.

With a hearing already scheduled Monday with Boston’s Brad Marchand for his low hit on Vancouver’s Sami Salo, Shanahan will also be placing a call to Anaheim forward Jean-Francois Jacques to discuss his hit on Blue Jackets forward R.J. Umberger.

Late in the third period of the Ducks 7-4 win over the Jackets Sunday night, Jacques caught Umberger with a blatant elbow to the head as the Columbus forward followed through on a shot. He was assessed a five-minute major for elbowing and a game misconduct.

Jacques was also suspended for the first five games of the regular season after leaving the bench in a pre-season game to a fight with Vancouver’s Mike Duco.

After the game Umberger told reporters the hit was “very dirty,” and believes Jacques will be suspended.
