January 9: New Years Resolution breaking day?

TORONTO, Ont. – January 9 marks the day three-quarters of U.K. residents break their New Years resolutions.

Only nine days into the new year, Brits are likely to give up the resolution to work out, save money or eat healthy.

So how are Torontonians faring? 680News visited the intersection of Yonge and College, to find Miriam puffing away on a cigarette.

“It’s to quit smoking, but obviously not well since I’m having one, but I’m working on it! I’m working on it!” she laughed.

And Navqi’s attempt to workout isn’t going very well, saying the motivation “withered away.”

While Jason said, he simply doesn’t make them.

“I just don’t like to be a failure. If you don’t do it, then you can’t fail.”

Eva prefers a year-round approach.

“If you’ve generally been on a track where you’ve been looking for that self improvement, you don’t necessarily need to make some sort of promise to yourself just because it’s the beginning of a new year,” she said.

And Jody is proud of herself.

“I’m changing my eating habits and exercising a little bit more. So far so far, but we’re only nine days in!”

Finally, Meredith makes the same goal every year, doing her “best to be happy and healthy. It’s a good one, because that way I never break it.”

If you’ve already broken your resolution, mark your calendar. January 1, 2013 is only 356 days away.
