The Montreal Canadiens have traded disgruntled forward Michael Cammalleri, goaltender Karri Ramo and a fifth round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft to the Calgary Flames for Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland and a second-rounder in 2013.
Cammalleri was pulled from the Canadiens game versus the Boston Bruins midway through the third period and was reportedly sent back to the team hotel.
The trade comes a day after Cammalleri criticized his team’s “losing mentality” and complained about his limited ice time in recent games.
Cammalleri has nine goals and 22 points in 38 games and is currently on pace for 45 points, which would be his lowest total since becoming a full-time NHLer in 2005-06. His best season came while a member of the Flames in 2008-09 when he scored 39 goals and 82 points in 81 games.
The Toronto native has two more years remaining on his current five-year deal that carries an average cap hit of $6 million per season.
Bourque has 13 goals and three assists in 38 games this season. The Lac La Biche, Alta., native had 28 goals and 50 points in 80 games last season.
