Union for Miller Transit to return to the bargaining table, Friday

There is a glimmer of hope for one of the unions involved in the York Region Transit strike.
The union representing 250 workers at Miller Transit will return to the bargaining table Friday after a request from a provincial mediator.
This comes only a few weeks after members voted down Miller’s latest contract offer. That deal was rejected by nearly 84 per cent.
Ray Doyle, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1587, told 680News he is willing to talk but he would prefer to end the strike immediately through binding arbitration.
“The employers and the region are saying that there has been reasonable and generous offers made. If that is so then they have nothing to fear from a neutral, third party arbitrator.
York Region has been without 60 per cent of its bus service since October, making life difficult for the more than 40,000 people who rely on it.
