Report: Jays talks with Ramirez go nowhere

If the Toronto Blue Jays or any other MLB club sign Manny Ramriez, the suspended slugger will be allowed to participate in spring training games.
Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com reported Sunday the 39-year-old Ramirez is eligible for spring training games despite the 50-game suspension he is facing for violating baseball’s drug policy.
According to Rosenthal, once the season starts, Ramirez can work out with major-or minor-league teams as long as he leaves before the gates open each day.
He is also allowed to play in the minors on a 10-game rehabilitation assignment.
A Feb. 3 report by ESPNDeportes.com suggested Ramirez was interested in playing for the Oakland A’s, Baltimore Orioles or Toronto Blue Jays.
The Orioles have since publicly questioned whether Ramirez would be a fit, while Rosenthal reported Sunday that the A’s remain the front-runners to sign him.
Rosenthal added that although the Blue Jays showed interest at one point, talks have “failed to progress.”
