Police searching for 2 suspects after armed bank robbery in Mimico

Police are asking for tips from the public as they continue to search for two suspects nearly a month after an armed bank robbery in Mimico.

Around noon on Feb. 23, two men stormed into a Bank of Montreal on Lake Shore Boulevard West at Park Lawn Road, fired a shot into the ceiling and demanded the customers to get on the ground.

Police said between eight and 10 customers were in the branch at the time.

“It’s almost like the wild west, firing a shot to getting the attention of everybody while ordering them to the floor,” Staff-Insp. Mike Earl of the hold-up squad said. “It’s a frightening experience for anybody.”

Earl said one suspect armed with a handgun stood watch by the door while pointing the firearm at tellers as the second bandit handed tellers yellow bags for cash.

The robbers were last seen running east to the back of a motel, where police believe they fled in a vehicle.

The suspects are described as:

  • White male, wearing a white ROCAWEAR hooded sweatshirt with three lines of lettering on the back, a red New York Yankees winter hat, a plaid scarf and jeans.
  • Male, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a black ski mask.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (416) 808-7350 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
