Almost 40,000 participants took part in the Toronto Zoo’s “Name the Cub” contest, designed to pick a name for the new male polar bear cub.
A winner has been chosen, and “Hudson” has been confirmed as the name for the zoo’s male cub.
Born early on October 11, 2011, young Hudson is doing well as an arctic ambassador for the polar bear species.
“Hudson’s story, starting with the dedicated care of our Wildlife Care staff touches people’s hearts,” said John Tracogna, Chief Executive Officer. “It really demonstrates how much people want to be involved with the Zoo and conservation.”
The Toronto Zoo has four polar bears, including three adult bears that the Zoo also raised when they were rescued as orphans in Northern Ontario. The cub can be seen in his new outdoor den in the Zoo’s polar bear exhibit.
