The final ticket was torn and the popcorn machines have fallen silent at the Cumberland cinema in Yorkville after more than 30 years of screenings.
The last films were shown on the theatre’s four screens on Sunday night. The property owner is reportedly looking to redevelop the site near Bloor and Avenue Road as a Cineplex.
The closing marks a sad goodbye for many movie-goers who went to the theatre for its art-house showings.
The Cumberland opened in the summer of 1981.
