The search continues for a man presumed drowned in the Niagara Whirlpool.
Niagara police say the 22-year-old was with friends having a barbecue at the bottom of the gorge when he entered the water to cool down. He was soon overcome by the river’s strong currents. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor.
Several people in the area tried to rescue him, but were unable to reach him.
Police revealed Sunday that the victim is an international student from China, studying at Niagara College.
His name wasn’t disclosed.
Police say the currents are too strong to send divers in. Underwater cameras are being utilized.
