Probe continues after Mississauga man found dead in Michigan dump

Peel police are canvassed Mississauga’s city centre Thursday as they try to determine how a local man ended up dead in a Michigan landfill.

Kevin Arendt, 38, was last seen at a bar near Dundas Street West and Confederation Parkway on June 27. Two days later, his body was discovered in a landfill near Flint.

When police first announced his death they said foul play wasn’t suspected.

“I think maybe that was overstated at the beginning,” Peel Insp. George Koekkoek said Thursday, noting it’s still too early in the investigation to determine how Arendt died.

An autopsy conducted in Michigan didn’t provide any conclusive answers.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how Arendt’s body ended up in the garbage. A large amount of the GTA’s trash is shipped to Michigan.

They are also trying to nail down Arendt’s movements in the days before his death and are hoping to pick up some leads in the city centre area, particularly on Webb Drive where he lived. He was reported missing by his girlfriend.

“We’re still working on Mr. Arendt’s personal history and background as well,” Koekkeok said.

Arendt was last seen driving a navy blue Jeep Liberty with a Wisconsin licence plate. Police said the vehicle was found on a side street near the bars Arendt had visited the night he disappeared.
