Driver sought after fatal hit-&-run in Brampton

A grieving young man had a message for the driver who struck and killed his grandfather in Brampton early Monday morning: turn yourself in.

“It’s easier for the family if you turn yourself in,” Karanvir Dhaliwal said just a few hours after the fatal collision. “You know what you did at the end of the day.”

Peel police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed 80-year-old Joginder Singh. He was hit while walking to temple before dawn, around 4:30 a.m., on Timberlane Drive, near McLaughlin Road and Ray Lawson Boulevard.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local residents told CityNews Timberlane is a busy road that isn’t well lit.

Const. Thomas Ruttan provided a vague description of the suspect car later Monday morning. He said investigators are looking for a dark-coloured vehicle. The make and model aren’t known but it likely has damage to the windshield and front bumper.

“We do have video at the temple that has been seized that we will be going through that video to determine the type of vehicle that is,” he said.

Ruttan urged the driver to come forward and surrender to police.

The victim’s family, meanwhile, is still trying to come to grips with the loss.

“Even when I saw it, I couldn’t believe it, like, it just hit me a while ago,” Dhaliwal said.

“Everyone’s shocked in the family … As the days go by, it’s going to get harder.”
