The Maple Leafs have been talking about rebuilding the team for years. Right now, the rebuilding is literally underway at the Air Canada Centre.
The Leafs’ dressing room is getting a makeover this summer, complete with some special touches from new coach Randy Carlyle, according to a report in the Toronto Sun.
The dressing room was considered a fairly modern place when it opened with the Air Canada Centre in 1999, but coach Randy Carlyle believes you can impact your team’s mentality through the atmosphere.
As such, Carlyle is reportedly working with an interior designer to upgrade the dressing room, including better carpets, new ceilings, brighter lights and some fancy murals on the wall.
Each players’ stall is also getting a makeover.
Carlyle has asked that inspirational messages be inscribed on the walls through the two change rooms between the players’ lounge and coaches’ office.
In the original Maple Leafs dressing room at Maple Leaf Gardens, the first team owner had the message “defeat does not rest lightly on their shoulders” inscribed.
