Getting the flu shot

Toronto’s flu shot clinics will open Thursday, as officials try to minimize the spread of influenza this season.

This year residents can get their shot from pharmacists, in addition to their family physicians.

“Immunization is one way to keep the people of Ontario healthy,” health minister Deb Matthews said. “Only about a third of us get the flu shot, and that’s not enough.”

Matthews said more than half the population is vaccinated in other provinces. She said that with pharmacists now being able to give flu shots, the number of people receiving vaccinations should increase.
