Students who survived the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., will return to class on Thursday – but they won’t return to Sandy Hook.
Instead, they will attend class at a repurposed middle school in the nearby town of Monroe. An open house was held at the school on Wednesday for parents and students.
A gunman broke into Sandy Hook and killed 26 people — 20 children and six adults — on Dec. 14. It is the second-deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.
The shooter, Adam Lanza, also killed his mother and himself, bringing the death toll to 28.
Teachers and the school board in Newtown have said it’s important for students to return to school and a normal routine.
