Rogers signs to buy Shaw’s cable operations in Hamilton, wireless spectrum

Rogers Communications Inc., owner of 680News, has signed agreements with Shaw Communications Inc. to secure an option to purchase AWS wireless spectrum holdings in 2014.
AWS spectrum is a wireless telecommunications spectrum band used for mobile voice and data services, video and messaging.
Rogers will also acquire Shaw’s Mountain Cablevision Ltd. in Hamilton, Ont.
Shaw will also acquire Rogers’ one-third interest in TVtropolis. This sale will provide Shaw with 100 percent ownership of TVtropolis but Rogers will continue to have access to TVtropolis content.
Rogers net cash investment is expected to be roughly $700-million once the transactions are completed.
All aspects of the agreement are depend on approval by various regulatory bodies.
