Toronto police have made an arrest after a man allegedly stabbed a taxi driver and stole his cab on Wednesday night.
Officers say the driver picked up a passenger near Gerrard Street East and Jones Avenue in the city’s east end and drove him to Lake Shore Boulevard West and Thirty Eighth Street in Etobicoke, a distance of over 20 kilometres.
After they arrived, the passenger allegedly attacked the driver with a knife, forcing him out of the cab. The passenger then stole the cab, police say.
A passerby found the driver around 8 p.m. and called 911. He was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries to the back of his head and hand.
Police arrested the suspect a short distance away.
Tylor Duhamel, 18, of Toronto, is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and robbery.
