Mayor Rob Ford meets with Premier Kathleen Wynne at Queen’s Park

Mayor Rob Ford met with Premier Kathleen Wynne at Queen’s Park on Thursday, the first official get-together between the two since Wynne was sworn in on Feb. 11.

“We had a good meeting,” Ford said afterwards.

“Obviously there’s a number of things that we’re gonna agree on and that we’re gonna agree to disagree on.”

The two have opposing views on road tolls and a proposed Toronto casino. They also talked about transit and housing.

“There’s a lot of issues. There’s transit, there’s obviously the casino, the entertainment complex,” Ford said.

“We had a great discussion and we talked about a lot of things.”

On March 20, Wynne said that there would be no special funding from the province for a Toronto casino, despite claims from the Ontario Lottery Gaming Corp. (OLG) that an agreement was in the works.

Earlier reports stated the OLG was offering the city between $50 — 100 million in hosting fees — a number that eclipses other municipalities.

Wynne said all municipalities must abide by the same funding formula. After her announcement, Ford reiterated that Toronto should receive more money than smaller cities, because of its large size.

Last month, Ford said he spoke to Wynne about road tolls and the two “agreed to disagree” on the matter.

“I told her adamantly I’m opposed to tolls,” Ford said Feb. 15.

Wynne has said new sources of funding, such as tolls, must be considered to fund transit expansion in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area (GTHA).
