3 more charged in Boston Marathon bombings case

Three additional men have been arrested and charged in the Boston Marathon bombing case, and officials say all are college friends with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, the main surviving suspect in the case.

Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev, originally from Kazakhstan, were charged with conspiring to obstruct justice, The Associated Press reported. A third man, Robel Phillipos, was charged with making false statements to federal investigators.

Authorities allege after recognizing Tsarnaev in FBI photos on April 18, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth students went to his dorm room and disposed of a backpack and laptop to help him out. The men were expected in court on Wednesday afternoon.

Three people were killed and more than 260 others were injured after two explosions near the finish line of the marathon on April 15.

The Tsarnaev brothers were named as the prime suspects in the case.

Tamerlan 26, was killed in a manhunt, and Dzhokhar was arrested and is in custody recuperating from injuries sustained in a gunfight with police.

He’s facing charges of using a weapon of mass destruction as well as malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison or death.
