FX Canada unveils new lineup of shows

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the often dark hit comedy, is coming to FX Canada this summer alongside a slew of shows with big names like Billy Crystal and the Coen brothers.

“FX Canada is synonymous with the gripping, water-cooler series that make specialty television a driving force in the new media landscape,” Scott Moore, president of broadcast for Rogers Media, said in a statement Wednesday.

“Our strong relationship with the industry-leading programming team at the FX Networks, John Landgraf and Eric Schrier, enables us to continue to deliver the premium and world-class content that defines the FX brand.”

Danny Devito, Charlie Day and Kaitlin Olson star in the cult favourite It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which  will join the station’s roster on July 4.

The Bridge, starring Demián Bichir and Diane Kruger, is one of 11 new series coming to the network.  The crime thriller will premiere on July 10.

Meanwhile, FX Canada’s first limited series Fargo – based on the Coen brothers’ Oscar-winning crime drama of the same name – will launch in spring 2014.

Other news series include Tyrant, which chronicles an American family’s move to the Middle East; vampire thriller The Strain (it’s based on a trilogy by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and author Chuck Hogan) and The Comedians, written by and starring Billy Crystal.

“We could not be more pleased with our lineup of new series and development,” John Landgraf, president and general manager of FX Networks, said in a statement.

“FX Networks is expanding to three channels in the U.S. and is undergoing a massive programming ramp up. We have won bidding wars for some of the most high-profile projects for television and we are very excited about our future. This bodes well for our FX Canada subscribers. We’re grateful to Scott Moore and our wonderful partners at Rogers Media for their support of these initiatives.”

Fan favourites Wilfred, American Horror Story and Sons of Anarchy will all return this summer.
