Toronto man charged in east-end hit and run

Toronto police have charged a man in an east-end hit-and-run that sent a 35-year-old man to hospital with serious head injuries on Thursday night.

Police say the victim became involved in an altercation with a driver.

“The (victim) moved from the front of the pick-up truck to the driver’s door when the driver accelerated and struck the man,” police said in a release.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. on Fallingbrook Road near Kingston Road and Victoria Park Avenue.

Kyle Hazelton, 30, of Toronto, was arrested Friday morning.

He’s facing charges of fail to stop causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

A witness told CityNews on Thursday it appeared the driver ran over the victim on purpose.

“It looked like what he was trying to do was slow the guy down because he was driving too fast,” said witness Shane Cauley.

“The guy floors the truck and just takes off over the guy. He ran right over him. It was shocking. He was unconscious.”

Traffic Services is investigating.
