AMC Networks says it will create a companion series to the most popular show on cable TV, The Walking Dead.
The new show, which will premiere in 2015, will feature a new cast of zombie apocalypse survivors. The Walking Dead comics creator Robert Kirkman and executive producers, Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert, will create the storyline.
“Building on the success of the most popular show on television for adults 18-49 is literally a no-brainer,” AMC president and GM Charlie Collier said Monday. “We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”
The announcement was AMC’s second one in the past week. The studio said its popular Breaking Bad series was getting a prequel called Better Call Saul.
The fourth season of The Walking Dead premieres Oct. 13.
