Porter flights resume after systems-wide outage

Porter Airlines says things are finally back to normal after a rash of flight cancellations due to a systems-wide network outage that began Tuesday evening.

The first flight took off Wednesday morning at 6:45 a.m., Porter spokesman Brad Cicero confirmed.

The system was down for eight to 10 hours, he said, and six flights were cancelled Wednesday.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience…it was an unexpected delay,” Cicero said.

More than 40 flights were cancelled on Tuesday night but Porter said most flights are expected to take off and land normally Wednesday.

The network outage affected Porter’s website, call centre, reservation system and flight planning.

Porter told CityNews the outage with Navitaire – an online reservation system – affected a number of airlines around the world, including several in North America.

It’s unclear what caused it to shut down.
