Suspect sought in fatal Regent Park shooting

A 31-year-old man is dead and Toronto Police are searching for the suspect after a shooting in Regent Park on Monday.

Emergency crews were called an apartment on Shuter Street near Parliament Street around 5:30 p.m.

Police say the man was visiting someone in the building with a woman when he was attacked.

“(The victim) was on the fourth floor in front of the elevators when he was ambushed and several shots were fired,” Det.-Sgt. Dean Burks with the Toronto police homicide unit told CityNews.

Police say the victim made his way out of the building and collapsed on the sidewalk where he was located by paramedics who say he was transported to hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim later died of his injuries.

Police say they are searching for one suspect described as a black man in his 20s. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Homicide has taken over the investigation.
