‘Hunger Games’ tickets on sale, 2 months before movie opens

Fans of the blockbuster movie The Hunger Games are now able to purchase tickets for the sequel, nearly two months before it even opens.

Tickets for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire were made available Tuesday. The movie will open in North America on Nov. 22 and special advanced screenings will be held on Nov. 21.

The highly-anticipated sequel follows Katniss, played by Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence, and Peeta, played by Josh Hutcherson, who won the first Hunger Games. The literal fight to the death pitted them against children from other districts in the dystopian nation of Panem.

Normally, there is only one victor among the 24 children, but Katniss and Peeta refused to kill each other. Instead, they threatened to commit suicide on national television, and both are declared victors.

For the 75th Annual Hunger Games, The Quarter Quell, they must once again return to the battlefield.

Investment group Evercore is predicting the sequel will make $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales and produce $400 million profit for studio Lionsgate.

Mockingjay, the third and final book, will be split into two movies, the first of which will be released in 2015.

Tickets can be purchased at selected Cineplex Entertainment theatres and online at Cineplex.com.
