American Thanksgiving to coincide with Hanukkah for first time since 1888

Thanksgiving weekend will be extra special for some Americans this year.
This year’s Jewish calendar marks the first day of Hanukkah on Nov. 28.
The Wall Street Journal reports some plan to celebrate “Thanksgivukkah” — a combination of turkey day and the festival of lights — by lighting a “menurkey,” a menorah in the shape of a turkey.
“Thanksgivukkah” also has its own Facebook page.
Although the holidays have matched up in the past, the last time the first day of Hanukkah fell on U.S. Thanksgiving was in 1888.
In Canada, Thanksgiving will coincide with the Muslim religious holiday of Eid al-Adha — the latter begins Oct. 14 evening and ends Oct. 15 evening.
