Newspaper editorials call for Ford to step aside or resign

TORONTO – All four of the Toronto’s major daily newspapers have published editorials Wednesday morning, calling on the mayor to either resign, or step aside while he seeks treatment.

The Globe and Mail called Ford a “liar” and said he should move on and resign.

The Toronto Sun — a paper that endorsed Ford for mayor — said “if Ford loves Toronto as he claims, he’ll step down and seek help.” The editorial went on to say that Ford is “no longer worthy of the public’s trust.”

In an editorial in the Toronto Star, it said Ford has no business leading Toronto, after his “filthy tapestry of deception, bullying, character assassination, and false allegations of conspiracy unraveled Tuesday with a six-word confession.”

The Star also lauded police Chief Bill Blair, citing his “exemplary conduct” and said the city owes the investigators looking into this case, a “debt of gratitude.”

The National Post said Ford’s decision not to step down is a wrong one since he is “clearly a man battling serious personal demons” — and called for him to step down.

On Tuesday, Ford admitted he smoked the drug around a year ago while in a “drunken stupor.” He apologized for his “mistakes” but said he will not step down.
