AJAC announces category winners for best vehicles of 2014

The Automotive Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) announced Tuesday the 12 category winners for the best new car and truck awards.
The categories range from Best New Small Car and Best New Luxury Car to Best New SUV/CUV.
The 12 vehicles will now compete for the 2014 Canadian Car of the Year or the 2014 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year. The winners will be announced on Feb. 13 at the Canadian International Autoshow in Toronto.
Mazda scored a triple win in both the small car categories for the Mazda 3, as well as and the Best New Family Car over $30,000 for the Mazda 6.
Kia was also a big winner, with awards going to Kia Soul for the Best Family Car under $30,000 and the Kia Sorrento for the Best New SUV/CUV between $35,000 to $60,000.
The winners are voted on by 80 automotive journalists, who recently carried out a five-day test drive “TestFest” in Niagara Falls, Ont., evaluating 174 vehicles for various features, such as safety and cargo capacity.
