Police have charged a 22-year-old man with second-degree murder in the death of a man during Nuit Blanche.
Rameez Khalid, 19, was fatally stabbed the early morning of Oct. 6 after an altercation in the area of Richmond Street West and York Street in downtown Toronto.
Police say the victim attended a pop-up rave on University Avenue at Queen Street, part of Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s annual all-night alternative art event. At that rave, police say the victim was involved in an altercation with another group of people.
Det. Scott Whittemore said the fight was broken up by members of the public. The victim and a friend left the area and went eastbound on Richmond where they crossed paths once again with the group from the fight.
Whittemore said a violent altercation then took place, during which Khalid suffered life-threatening injuries.
Last Wednesday, Emanuel Lozada was arrested by the RCMP’s immigration task force, working in concert with the Mounties police dog services and Toronto police’s homicide squad.
He was scheduled for a court appearance at Old City Hall on Nov. 28.
Investigators are still looking for another suspect, Victor Ramos, 21, who’s wanted for manslaughter.
