’12 Years a Slave,’ ‘American Hustle’ grab top noms at Critics’ Choice Awards

The nominations for the Critics’ Choice awards have been announced and it was a tie.

Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave received 13 nods – as did David O. Russell’s American Hustle.

Both films garnered nominations in the best film and director categories and for lead and supporting performances.

The Sandra Bullock’s box office smash Gravity also picked up 10 nominations including best actress for Bullock and best director for Alfonso Cuaron. Bullock is also nominated for her role in the comedy The Heat.

Other films up for awards include Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Her, Captain Phillips and The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug.

The awards will be hosted by comedian Aisha Tyler and will air on Jan. 16.
