Boy, 13, critical after being struck by vehicle in Markham

A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Markham.

The collision happened around 7 p.m. Saturday at McCowan Road and Bur Oak Avenue.

Police say the boy was crossing the street at an intersection by himself when he was struck by the vehicle.

He suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital where he remains in the intensive care unit.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities.

Police say it has been determined that the vehicle had the right of way and no charges will be laid against the driver.

Road conditions and weather are not believed to be factors in the crash.

The intersection will remain closed for several hours while police investigate.
