The price of gas in the GTA is headed for an all-time high — just in time for the first weekend of summer.
EnPro said the average cost will jump 7/10 cents to 143.9 cents/litre at midnight Friday.
“Bottom line: there seems to be no end in sight to the ever more excruciating pain at the pumps,” 680News business editor Richard Southern explained.
“Investors, nervous that oil supplies out of Iraq could be cut off, have pushed the price of crude to a 10-month high, and we’re paying the price.”
Sunni insurgents have seized towns and cities in northern Iraq and are battling soldiers loyal to the Iraqi government for control of the country’s largest oil refinery, according to reports.
Southern said energy prices have also contributed to an unexpected jump in Canada’s annual inflation rate to 2.3 per cent last month.
Drivers can save money by filling up outside of the city, where prices are cheaper, making sure their tires are properly inflated and keeping their windows rolled up when going faster than 30 km/h.
