A 22-year-old man is dead after a double shooting in Brampton on Monday night.
Peel regional police have identified the victim as Collins Kwarteng of Brampton. He was Brampton’s ninth homicide victim of the year.
Kwarteng was walking down the street when he was shot by unidentified suspects.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on Yellow Avens Boulevard, in the Airport Road and Countryside Drive area around 10:10 p.m.
Police say neighbours alerted authorities to the scene.
“The initial calls came in from neighbours who reported that they had heard multiple gunshots being fired in the area,” Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick said.
Kwarteng was pronounced dead on the scene.
A second man, 20, was taken to hospital with minor injuries from gunshot wounds. He has since been released.
Fitzpatrick would not say if there was a connection between the two victims, but neighbours said the victims were brothers.
Police would not comment on if this was a targeted shooting but said investigators don’t believe this was a random event.
“We don’t feel that there’s any concern for public safety at this point. This doesn’t seem to be random,” she said.
Police are still searching for suspects, but no description has been released.
