Canada leads world in Movember donations in 2014

Canada might have a relatively small population, but it seems we make up for it in generosity.
Sunday is the final day of Movember, where men around the world grow moustaches, and raise money in support of prostate cancer research.
According to the official website, Canada raised the most amount of money in the world for the Movember Foundation, with the total coming in at $18,481,496.
The next highest of 2014, Australia — where the Movember movement was born — raised just over $16 million.
Pete Bombaci, the director of Canada’s Movember campaign, says he thinks he knows why Canadians have taken to the event.
“I think we have truly embraced (the campaign),” Bombaci said. “Like the Aussies, we Canadians like to poke fun at ourselves and have good time. It’s combination of having fun and doing good that resonates with Canadians.”
This is the fourth time the country has come out on top.
However, Canada’s total amount raised is down sharply from the $33.9 million pledged during the 2013 campaign.
Bombaci said while the number is lower this year, “it’s still an incredibly large amount and we’re very thankful to the community.”
More than $71 million was raised this year for prostate cancer research worldwide.
