Union pickets Pearson over threats to workers serving special needs passengers

As families start returning from March break, there could be delays at Pearson International Airport on Friday.

Unifor is staging an information picket on Friday at Terminal 3 to protest a change to the contract for workers who take care of passengers with special needs.

The Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) has moved the contract from Servisair to Toronto Ground Airport Services.

The union said the new service provider has not committed to employing any of the 260 workers currently employed by Servisair.

They allege the GTAA is “contract flipping” and forcing workers to reapply for jobs and start at the beginning of the wage and benefits scale in order to save the company money.

Pickets will be up between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
