Witness interview video released in Darcy Allan Sheppard’s death

Witness interview video from the fatal crash involving former Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant and cyclist Darcy Allan Sheppard is being publicly released for the first time.

Sheppard died after being hit by a car that was driven by Bryant. While Bryant was initially charged, all charges against him were eventually dropped.

The video is part of a documentary produced by Alan Wayne Scott, a former bike courier. With the help of Sheppard’s father and through a Freedom of Information request, Scott was able to get the eyewitness video as well as 911 calls.

Scott said the witness told Toronto police a very different story from what Bryant said happened.

“What really struck me, even at that point in time, was that there was no verbal altercation between the two,” the witness said in the video.

680 NEWS has reached out for a comment from Bryant but hasn’t heard back.

At the time of the incident, Bryant said it was a terrifying 28 seconds, where he felt “terrified, panicked, wondered how Susan (his wife) and I were suddenly in this situation.”

“I obviously wish that none of it had happened …. none of it,” he told 680 NEWS. “I certainly have gone back and thought about ‘if you could have done something different, what would you have done?’ and I said, ‘I never would have left the house that night’.”

Scott plans to release more information on May 25 — the fifth anniversary of the charges being withdrawn against Bryant.
