Furious 7 maintained its hold on the North American box office on Sunday. The latest in the Fast and Furious franchise, the film earned $29.1 million in its third weekend in theaters. It’s already brought in about $1 billion dollars worldwide.

Opening this weekend is Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 which came in at number two. The movie, starring Kevin James, hasn’t been widely reviewed, but the reviews it has received have been brutal. Time Out wrote, “What would a film be like if every single person involved made as little effort as humanly possible?” Despite the bad critical response, the film is expected to bring in roughly 24 million dollars.

Also opening this weekend is Timur Bekmambetov produced Unfriended, which mostly takes place on a teenager’s computer screen as she and her friends are stalked by an unseen figure. The film has earned mixed reviews. The San Francisco Chronicle wrote, “The inevitable meltdowns feel unearned because of predictable, yet unmotivated, character turns. There’s no one to root for, not even the dead girl. Nothing seems important enough.”

However USA Today liked it, saying, “Fresh and fearsome fun.” It’s earned 16 million this weekend.

Holding over from previous weeks, animated film Home saw another $10.3 million added to its global haul of about $244 million and The Longest Ride with $6.9 million” rounded out the top five movies this weekend.
