Organizers for the Mac ‘n Cheese Festival are apologizing after they were overwhelmed by the number of people attending the event.
The lineup outside the Liberty Market in Liberty Village stretched a number of blocks, and at times, foodies had to wait 90 minutes just to get in.
Vendors ran out of food despite festival goers having already purchased tickets to sample the goods.
Event organizer Philip Suos told the Toronto Star they were simply unprepared for the number of people who attended.
Area residents also expressed frustration over the volume of trash left behind by the festival.
More than 17,000 people showed up — 12,000 more than organizers had planned for.
Suos estimated that by the end of the three-day festival, the first ever in Canada, about 46,000 people had taken part.
The festival was originally intended to be a small event to support local businesses.
