A 59-year-old man is dead after the canoe he and his wife were in capsized on Lake Simcoe.
South Simcoe police said the Alliston man and his wife had been fishing Wednesday afternoon at the south end of the lake. Around 5 p.m. rough conditions on the lake cause the canoe to capsize and both the man and his wife fell into the water.
A passing boater was able to rescue the woman but her husband was nowhere to be found.
Around 7:15 p.m. police divers recovered the man’s body from the bottom of the lake. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Officials said the man was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.
Police continue to investigate.
