Women in their 40s happier now than a decade ago: Chatelaine

Women hitting their 40s find their confidence and are 44 per cent happier than they were 10 years ago, a new poll conducted for Chatelaine magazine finds.

“Overall, people say they’re happier than they were 10 years ago,” the magazine’s editor-in-chief Lianne George said.

“As you get older, there is a sense of ownership of your life and the choices you’ve made and I think with that, comes a lot more confidence and a sense of not being as vulnerable to what other people think. There’s power in that.”

Chatelaine asked 1,000 women between the ages of 35 and 45 about their relationships, body image, kids and overall happiness.

Some other highlights of the “This is 40-ish” survey are:

  • 31 per cent of the women surveyed have sex less than once a month
  • 73 per cent don’t think they look good naked
  • 92 per cent do not lie about their age
  • 54 per cent say they make less money than they deserve for their work
  • 61 per cent say they’ve experienced depression or anxiety
  • 68 per cent of them do not consider themselves a feminist

Chatelaine asks people to discuss the survey on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #40ish.

The “This is 40-ish” survey is available in the January issue of Chatelaine, on store shelves now and available digitally via Texture by Next Issue.
