No fire-breathing but bearded dragons could be comfy in right home

Call the Khaleesi — a bunch of bearded dragons in Regina are looking for a new home.

But unlike the fire-breathing variety favoured by Daenerys Targaryen on “Game of Thrones,” these dragons would rather snuggle on your chest and watch their fictional counterparts on television.

Stuart Cook, one of the owners of Prairie Aquatics and Exotics, says eight of the lizards were surrendered to his pet shop in the last few months.

Cook says usually, they might get one bearded dragon every month or two, so eight was a lot at one time.

He suspects it was a case of people buying animals without all the information they needed.

So they ended up with something they weren’t really prepared to deal with.

However, Cook stresses that bearded dragons are easy to take care of, and are very social animals.

“You sit down, watch TV, and they’ll just snuggle into your chest, sit on your lap, sit on your stomach,” he says. “They really like spending time with people.”

The shop has four of the reptiles left and is looking for good homes for them.

“We want to make sure that those who are going to take these guys on are fully aware of everything they need and are prepared to care for them for the next seven or eight years of their lives,” says Cook.
