TTC subway to shut down every month until the end of the year

Parts of the TTC subway will close for at least a weekend, starting in March and occurring every single month until the end of the year.

The scheduled closures are to keep the subway in state of good repair, the Toronto Transit Commission said on its website.

The closures will affect Line 1 (Yonge-University-Spadina), Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth), and Line 3 (Scarborough RT).

The work is being done in one solid chunk so as to not to disturb the work week. One weekend of work during a subway closure equals about five weeks of nightly work, according to the TTC.

While the TTC said the schedule and details of the closures are subject to change, this is where things stood on Thursday:

March

Line 1: St. George to Lawrence West closure on March 5 and 6, and again on March 19 and 20.

April

Line 2: Kennedy to Victoria Park closure on April 2, and again on April 23 and 24

Line 2: Pape to St. George opening late on April 3, and early closure on April 17.

Line 2: St. George to Jane closure on April 9 and 10

Line 1: St. George to Lawrence West closure on April 16 and 17
