Brazeau’s senate expense trial postponed until June 2017

The trial for Sen. Patrick Brazeau is being postponed until June 12 of next year.

Brazeau’s lawyer, Christian Deslauriers, appeared before a judge Friday morning at the Ottawa courthouse asking for a delay in Brazeau’s trial on fraud and breach of trust in relation to the Senate expense scandal.

Brazeau himself did not appear, and his lawyer requested a bilingual judge.

The delay was requested after the senator made an apparent suicide attempt in January, and was rushed to hospital.

Brazeau has since been active on Twitter, sending out a tweet at the end of February that just said the word “life.” It also had a picture attached of the senator and his daughter, who was born in the fall of 2015.

Brazeau’s trial was originally supposed to begin March 29 of this year.
