Toronto Zoo turns to public to name adorable baby rhino

By News Staff

The Toronto Zoo is looking for the public’s help in naming their baby rhino.

Three of the zookeepers caring for the adorable two-month-old calf have come up with potential names, and they’re encouraging people to vote for their favourite.

The possible names are Nandu, Kaziranga and Vihaan.

According to the zoo’s website, Nandu means “one who is cheerful and happy,” Vihaan means “morning or dawn” and Kaziranga is an Indian national park where two-thirds of the planet’s one-horned rhinoceroses live.

Voting on the zoo’s poll ends on May 17.

The baby rhino was born on Feb. 17, to parents Ashakiran and Vishnu after a difficult, 16-month pregnancy. The little tyke is gaining both confidence and about 5 pounds per day, and is already up to 400 pounds.
